Ending Homelessness with God's Love

Christmas in July serves over 2,500

Your Support Brought Joy to Thousands

On Friday, July 25 the Miami Rescue Mission/Broward Outreach Centers, with the help of nearly 500 volunteers, provided entertainment, and gave out nearly 600 new sneakers that were gift wrapped to needy children. The Miami and Broward Centers have a tradition to combine the Themes of Independence Day and Christmas into a theme of INDEPEDENCE for the Homeless and Needy. Over 2,500 meals were served, plus clothing and HOPE TOTE bags filled with hygiene were distributed to all adults.

Miami Dade Medical Center Campus gave medical information and blood pressure checks. In Hollywood, Holy Cross Hospital did HIV testing. Rick Sanchez, host os his daily radio show airing from 10AM-Noon (610AM WIOD-Clear Channel) did his morning show by remote from the Miami Christmas In July Street Outreach.

There was a Career Fair on each campus. Other agencies came and had tables so they could provide information to the homeless and needy and representatives talked and made appointments for possible future jobs and offered other ways of help. Agencies such as: Urban League, Career Resources commonly known as Workforce One, HOPE, Inc (Housing Opportunity Project for Excellence), Miami-Dade Office of the State Attorney, Legal Services of Miami, Transition, Inc, Safe-Link, Opportunity Sacred Trust, and Veterans Administration were there to offer additional information

So many generous people and companies came together to make the outreach memorable. Ultimate Software and AmTrust Bank and several other corporations and individuals came together and provided the shoes the outreach. Guidepost provided 2,000 Camouflage Devotional Books. These were a real hit with the adults. Scott Evans Productions provided music in Hollywood and brought Batman in costume. Also Chick-fil-A’s Cow came dressed as Santa at the Hollywood campus. Beauty Schools of America came with nearly 20 barbers to cut hair for men and women in Miami. Over 300 hair cuts were given at all 3 campuses.

“ The homeless people living on the streets and those living in our program need to know that people still care and there is hope for a brighter future. The career fair was amazing. So many of our most neediest of families and those who are currently homeless were so grateful that many agencies came together in one stop and they have a chance to find out about jobs. Over 80 homeless men and women came into one of our life-changing programs. Children were so excited with their new shoes. It truly is Christmas in July and just in time before school starts. Our volunteers helped raise funds by asking friends and neighbors to sponsor them on this special day. We're very grateful for our supporters and pray that this is a win-win for everybody that has helped and for those who are being helped. ”

“ I had a such a great time at the Christmas in July Celebration. I'm having a hard time of it and being here today was really uplifting. My kids got clothes and sneakers for school. The food was great and I am very thankful to everyone for thinking of us. ”
