women, children and families in Broward County have a new
comprehensive Center in Hollywood they can call home. This
center provides the opportunity for mothers and children to
live together as a family unit and not be separated due to
housing restrictions. The center also offers a structure therapeutic
environment for a homeless family, allowing them to rebuild
their lives as a whole unit.
There has been an increasing number of women becoming homeless
or seeking safe refuge. Both the need for additional beds
and special programming designed for women have been addressed
with the construction of this $3.3 million dollar, 18,000
The current BOC Hollywood facility has one room dedicated
to families and ten beds for single women. With the addition
of the Broward Outreach Center for Women and Children, the
total number of beds available at the Hollywood center will
increase to 120 beds, with 50 of those beds available for
single women and women with children and families. The new
Center will have six family rooms for women with children
and families, along with 20 beds provided for single women.
The Hollywood Police Department is partnering with Broward
Outreach Center to help prostitutes reclaim their lives through
a program entitled Women at Risk Reduction Management (WARRM).
The program gives prostitutes a therapeutic alternative to
jail time, and a chance to rebuild their lives. WARRM is a
multi-tiered incentive program focusing on counseling and
The goals of the program encourage women to rebuild their
self-esteem, and get them into a high-demand recovery program
similar to that of BOC. The BOC program offers life skills
classes, education labs, counseling, drug treatment, career
services and access to medical facilities.
Broward Outreach Center, a division of Miami Rescue Mission,
operates comprehensive homeless shelters in Hollywood and
in Pompano Beach.
