Comprehensive Homeless Assistance Centers in South Florida

Here's how to help!

NOW OPEN:
BROWARD OUTREACH CENTER FOR WOMEN & CHILDREN - HOLLYWOOD

Homeless women, children and families in Broward County have a new comprehensive Center in Hollywood they can call home. This center provides the opportunity for mothers and children to live together as a family unit and not be separated due to housing restrictions. The center also offers a structure therapeutic environment for a homeless family, allowing them to rebuild their lives as a whole unit.

There has been an increasing number of women becoming homeless or seeking safe refuge. Both the need for additional beds and special programming designed for women have been addressed with the construction of this $3.3 million dollar, 18,000 square-foot facility.

The current BOC Hollywood facility has one room dedicated to families and ten beds for single women. With the addition of the Broward Outreach Center for Women and Children, the total number of beds available at the Hollywood center will increase to 120 beds, with 50 of those beds available for single women and women with children and families. The new Center will have six family rooms for women with children and families, along with 20 beds provided for single women.

The Hollywood Police Department is partnering with Broward Outreach Center to help prostitutes reclaim their lives through a program entitled Women at Risk Reduction Management (WARRM). The program gives prostitutes a therapeutic alternative to jail time, and a chance to rebuild their lives. WARRM is a multi-tiered incentive program focusing on counseling and case management.

The goals of the program encourage women to rebuild their self-esteem, and get them into a high-demand recovery program similar to that of BOC. The BOC program offers life skills classes, education labs, counseling, drug treatment, career services and access to medical facilities.

Broward Outreach Center, a division of Miami Rescue Mission, operates comprehensive homeless shelters in Hollywood and in Pompano Beach.

Funding for the Broward Outreach Center comes from private contributions, the State of Florida, HUD, Department of Children and Families, United Way, and the Broward County Board of Commissioners.
